Mount Akadake (2,899.38 m) is the highest peak of the Yatsugatake range, straddling Hokuto City in Yamanashi and Chino City / Minamimaki Village in Nagano. As the centerpiece of Yatsugatake-Chūshin Kōgen Quasi-National Park, it features a sharp pyramidal summit, exposed scrambles secured by chains and ladders, and panoramic views of Fuji and the Southern, Central and Northern Japan Alps. Multiple approaches converge on the peak, including Minodoteguchi from the Chino side and the Kenkai-One and Shinkyōji-One ridges from the Hokuto side, supported by Akadake-kōsen, Gyōja-goya and Akadake-Tenbōsō huts. The peak appears in the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains and many other major lists.
