Pilatus Tateshina Snow Resort trail map
Pilatus Tateshina spreads over the west face of Mt. Kitayoko in the northern Yatsugatake range above Chino, Nagano. A 100-person ropeway climbs to about 2,240 m, one of the highest ski starts in Japan, and from there a run of up to 4 km winds down through rime-frosted forest. The upper area is mostly tree-lined trails, including the 33-degree Hyotan course, while the lower slopes have an easy main run, a technical pitch used for tests and a free kids' area split between sledding and skiing. The views take in the Northern, Central and Southern Alps, and snowshoe walks start at the summit. The season runs from mid-December to early April; it is about 40 minutes from the Suwa IC, with buses from Chino Station.
