Hakuba Valley is the shared name for ten ski areas strung along the foot of the Northern Alps across Omachi, Hakuba and Otari, the region that hosted events of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. The resorts range from gentle family hills such as Jiigatake and Kashimayari in the south, through Goryu, Hakuba47, Happo-one and Iwatake, to Tsugaike, Norikura and Cortina in the north. One all-mountain day pass or season pass works at all ten, with common ticket gates at nine of them and a valley shuttle bus linking the bases, so you can pick a different mountain each day. The valley is also an Epic Pass partner. From Tokyo it is reached by Hokuriku Shinkansen to Nagano and an express bus.
