Mt. Naka is a 3,084 m peak — the 12th highest in Japan — on the southern Hida Mountains (Northern Alps), straddling Matsumoto (Nagano) and Takayama (Gifu). It sits on the Yari–Hotaka ridge between Ōbami-dake and Minami-dake, and was named in 1909 by Usui Masao's party for its position midway between Yarigatake and Minamidake. A dancing-maiden snow figure appears on its eastern face, and a seasonal spring known as the "Cloud-top Oasis" emerges on the southeastern slope. Within a Special Protection Zone of Chūbu Sangaku National Park, the summit is traversed on the standard ridge route from Kamikōchi or Shinhotaka.
