Mt. Minami is a 3,032.7 m peak on the main ridge of the southern Hida Mountains (Northern Alps), straddling Matsumoto (Nagano) and Takayama (Gifu) between Yarigatake and Kita-Hotakadake. The Minamidake-goya hut stands just below the summit, and immediately to its south begins the Daikiretto, one of Japan's most demanding traverses. Inside Chūbu Sangaku National Park, the summit offers a sweeping panorama over Yari, Hotaka, Kasa and Jōnen. The peak is one of Japan's Hyaku-kōzan and 3,000-metre mountains; the standard route is open while the Minamidake-goya operates (mid-July to early October).
