Mount Kasa is a 2,898 m peak in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, the principal summit of the Kasa range in the southern Hida Mountains. It is the highest peak in Gifu that does not lie on a prefectural border, and lies within Chūbu-Sangaku National Park, listed in Fukada Kyūya's Hyakumeizan and the Shin Hana-no-Hyakumeizan. The mountain is celebrated for the perfectly conical "sedge-hat" silhouette it presents from every direction; Fukada wrote that few peaks in Japan match their name and shape so completely. The two standard routes both leave Shinhotaka Onsen — the steep Kasa-Shindō trail crossing Nukedo-dake to the Kasagatake-Sansō hut, and the more technical Kuriya-dani trail climbing directly to the summit; the summit hut typically operates from late June to mid-October.
