Mount Kamui

Mount Kamui is a 983 m peak in Minami Ward of Sapporo City, Hokkaido, conspicuous for its bare rock summit that juts up in a shape recalling the kanji character 凸. Theories about the name connect it to the Ainu kamuy ('god mountain' or a euphemism for brown bears), though some scholars argue the original Ainu name was 'pūne-shir', with Meiji-era surveyors substituting Kamui. The main trail starts from Hyakumatsu Bridge over the Toyohira River; a ridge traverse to neighbouring Mount Eboshi is possible but rough. The mountain is counted among the 100 Famous Mountains of Hokkaido and the Sapporo 50 Peaks.
