Mount Hakken

Mount Hakken is a 498 m rocky peak on the left bank of the Toyohira River in Minami Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaidō, named for the sword-like crags that line its narrow summit ridge. Also called Kannon-iwa-yama after a Kannon image once enshrined at its base — and labelled Goken-zan on Meiji-era maps — it is counted in the Sapporo 50 Peaks and the 1993 Hokkaidō Hundred Mountains. Despite its modest height the airy rock ridge has produced several fatal slips since 2016, and the gentler West Trailhead is officially recommended for beginners.
