Sapporo Bankei Ski Area sits about 20 minutes by car from central Sapporo and can be reached by route bus from three subway stations, which makes it the city's after-work and after-school hill: lifts run into the evening every night. It is also a serious freestyle venue, with an FIS-certified halfpipe and mogul course that have hosted World Cup and national championship events. Alongside that, 17 courses cover beginner to expert terrain, and the fenced Waku Waku Snow Land gives small children sledding and tubing away from the main slopes. Lessons are offered in English as well as Japanese. The season usually runs from early December to late March.
