Sapporo Moiwayama is the city's own ski hill, open since 1960 on Mt. Moiwa, about 20 minutes by car from central Sapporo. Its ten runs spread over north and south slopes, from gentle family slopes and the 2.6 km scenic road course to the mogul run at Usagidaira and the 38-degree Karamatsu pitch. The big draw is night skiing every evening with the lights of Sapporo spread out below. Local schools hold ski classes here, and a beginner snow-play area makes it easy for families. Long a skiers-only hill, it has welcomed snowboarders since the 2025-26 season. A shuttle bus runs from Makomanai subway station.

Getting to Sapporo Moiwayama Ski Area and parking

Car: Route 230 (for the north slope turn toward the mountain at the Minami 36-jo intersection; for the south slope head toward the scenic road)
Parking: 700 spaces · Free (north slope 450 spaces, south slope 250 spaces)

New Chitose Airport → Makomanai Station JR Rapid Airport (to Sapporo Station), Subway Namboku Line · Shuttle bus free for children under 6 and Sapporo elementary school pupils → For the north slope, Sapporo Moiwayama Ski Area shuttle bus from the Makomanai Chugakko-mae stop (daily in season, 1,000 yen one way, about 15 min). For the south slope, bus South 98 bound for Doro Kanri Jimusho from stop No. 6. Taxi about 10–15 min
