Jozankei Mikasa Ski Resort is a gentle, lift-free snow slope right next to the Jozankei hot-spring town in Minami Ward, Sapporo. Entry is free, and visitors come to sled, walk on snowshoes or practise on yukiita, bindingless snow boards; sleds are lent free to adults and children alike. At the foot stands the retro Mikasa Lodge, with toilets and room to eat food you bring. It suits families and young children trying snow for the first time, and makes an easy outing for guests staying at the onsen hotels. It opens from late December, snow permitting, until the end of March, a short walk from the Jozankei bus stops.
