Mount Moiwa

Mount Moiwa is a 531 m peak rising on the southwest side of central Sapporo and serves as a symbol of the city, visible from nearly anywhere in town. Formed by volcanic activity some four million years ago, its slopes cradle the Moiwa Primeval Forest, a nationally designated natural monument. Visitors can reach the summit by ropeway and the Mōrisu cable car on the north side or by way of five maintained trails, including the Jikeikai Hospital and Asahiyama Memorial Park routes. The night view from the summit observation deck is celebrated as one of the Three Great Night Views of Hokkaido, and the mountain features on lists including Hokkaidō Hyakumeizan, Shin Nihon Hyakumeizan, and Nihon Hyaku Teizan.
