Shiga Kogen Yokoteyama-Shibutoge is the highest lift-served ski area in Japan, with runs starting near the 2,307 m summit of Mount Yokote. High-altitude snow and views over the Northern Alps and the Zenkoji plain are the draw, and snow monsters (rime-covered trees) form near the top in winter. Terrain ranges from the long beginner 1st slope to the ungroomed steeps of the Jumbo courses and the Shibutoge side's powder and snow park. The season runs from November into May, and the Shiga Kogen all-mountain pass is valid. Access is by bus from Nagano Station or by car from the Shinshu-Nakano interchange.
