Maruike Ski Area trail map
Maruike, in the central area of Shiga Kogen, is known as the site of Japan's first ski lift, built in 1947. A triple and a pair chairlift serve six runs, from the gentle 800 m C course to the A course, the toughest here at up to 32 degrees, so this small hill covers a wide range of ability. It links on skis with neighbouring Hasuike and Sun Valley and is covered by the Shiga Kogen lift tickets. At the base, the Maruike Snowland play area and hotel-run ski lessons make it a convenient base for families.
