Higashidateyama Ski Area trail map
Higashidateyama is the ski area on Mount Higashidate in Shiga Kogen's central zone, reached by a gondola that climbs from Hoppo Onsen to a summit of about 2,000 m. It hosted the giant slalom at the 1998 Nagano Olympics, and a monument near the top marks the event. The Olympic Course drops straight down from the summit for confident skiers, while the long forest trail toward Bunadaira gives beginners an easy cruise; linked with Terakoya it becomes a run of around 6 km. The terrain is split roughly 40% beginner, 40% intermediate and 20% advanced. The summit restaurant looks out over the Northern Alps. It is covered by the Shiga Kogen all-mountain pass, and Shiga Kogen's season runs from early December into May.

Bus
- Nagano Station East Exit → Hoppo Onsen Nagaden Bus (Express Nagano - Shiga Kogen Line) · Dec 5, 2026 - Apr 5, 2027 (winter timetable) · Only some runs stop at Hoppo Onsen (10:30 and 14:30 from Nagano Station East Exit). On other runs get off at Shiga Kogen Yamanoeki (about 70 min) or Hasuike Hiroba and take the ski shuttle bus (free during shuttle hours). Connects with the Hokuriku Shinkansen at Nagano
Overnight bus
