Akakura Onsen Ski Resort trail map
Akakura Onsen Ski Resort is Mogami town's ski area on the north face of Mount Omori, near the Miyagi border in Yamagata. Its big draw is the Akakura Onsen hot spring village at its foot, so a day on the snow can end with a soak and an overnight stay. Eight runs include a 100 m-wide central slope, the 1.1 km Kokutai course with its stepped pitches, and ungroomed expert terrain: the Challenge lines, a tree run and the Forest Line through the woods. The summit looks out over the Kamuro range. There is also a kids' area, a cross-country loop and a ski school with English and Chinese speaking instructors, and the hill has long trained local racers.
