Uenono Ski Area sits just outside the Naruko Onsen hot-spring town and has been running since 1923, billing itself as the birthplace of skiing in Miyagi. A pair lift serves broad, gentle beginner slopes that suit children's first lessons and families practising together, and there is a sled run by the rest house. There is no cafeteria, but the town's public baths, such as Taki-no-yu, are a few minutes away for a soak afterwards. The hill opens only over New Year and on weekends and holidays, and in thin-snow years not until January. It is about 40 minutes from Furukawa IC on Route 47, or five minutes by taxi from Naruko-Onsen Station.
