Shinjo Shimin Ski Area is the city ski hill of Shinjo, Yamagata, in the Itsukamachi district, run by the city sports association. One lift serves three mostly beginner runs, and the lights stay on for night skiing every day, so locals drop in after work or school. Children at city schools ride free, and there is a kids' play area, junior lessons and rental gear. The Mokuzo Shiki no Ie lodge has a canteen and rest area. It usually opens around January and is a short drive from Shinjo Station and the Shinjo-Sakegawa interchange.
