Yunodai Ski Area sits on the Yunodai plateau in Okura, Yamagata, in heavy-snow country. It is built around a cross-country course certified by the Ski Association of Japan, which hosts races, plus a single gentle downhill slope served by a lift. Thanks to the deep snow it is one of the first places in the prefecture to open and usually keeps running into early May, though in midwinter it opens on weekends and holidays only. The hot-spring village of Hijiori Onsen is nearby.
