Nishikawa Chomin Ski Area is a small town-run hill in the Mazawa district of Nishikawa, Yamagata, right beside Route 112 and a few minutes from the Nishikawa exit of the Yamagata Expressway. One chairlift serves three short runs, mostly gentle slopes for families and local children. On weekdays it opens only for night skiing from late afternoon, while weekends and holidays have both day and night sessions, so locals drop in after work or school. The lift is run by the company that operates Gassan Ski Area, and the town holds winter events such as a free-lift day for children and a snow volleyball tournament. Opened in 1983, it usually runs from around January to mid-March.
