Kushibiki Taranokidai Ski Area is a small city-run hill in the Kushibiki district of Tsuruoka, Yamagata, close to town, with views from the top over Tsuruoka and the Shonai Plain. A single lift serves seven short courses. On weekdays it opens only for night skiing, while weekends and holidays run from morning into the evening, so it is a handy after-work and after-school hill for locals and families. There is a ski school, and each winter the community holds events such as a thanks day with free daytime lifts for high-school students and younger, and light-ups of the course.
