Mt. Yunosawa (964 m) stands near the center of the Maya-san range in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, and is the second-highest peak of that range. Counted among the Yamagata 100 and Michinoku 120 mountain lists, it is traditionally said to have been opened by Kūkai (Kōbō Daishi) as a Shugendō training ground of the Kinpō-san sect before Yudono-san itself was opened. Together with Kinpō-san, Yoroigamine, Hokarisan, and Maya-san it forms the Goro-ho or "Five Elder Peaks." Steep ridges look down on the Shōnai Plain, and the summit offers views of Chōkai, Gassan, and the Asahi Range.
