Matsuyama Ski Area trail map
Matsuyama is a small ski hill inside Chokai-no-Mori, a forest park on a low ridge in the Matsuyama district of Sakata, and suits beginners and families with small children. From the top you look out over the Shonai Plain, Mt Chokai and the Sea of Japan. It opens from early afternoon into the evening on weekdays and all day into the evening on Saturdays, so locals can come after school or work, and the town runs ski classes in winter. An artificial slope can be used outside the snow season, and the park's own lodge, Chokai-no-Mori Sansan, offers rooms. In lean years the opening slips past New Year.
