Shirataka Town Ski Area is a small municipal hill on the western slope of Mt. Shirataka. A single pair lift runs up the middle of the slope, serving a 600 m family course and an expert course that tilts to 22 degrees. Snowboarding is allowed everywhere, and the slopes are floodlit for night skiing. Children of elementary age and under ski free in the daytime on the third Sunday of each month. The ski center at the base has a canteen and changing rooms. The season depends heavily on snowfall and centres on January and February.
