Mount Shiroyama

A 230 m hill southwest of central Yamagata in the Hasedō district of Yamagata City, crowned by the remains of Hasedō Castle (also called Kame-ga-jō), an important branch fortress of the Mogami clan. It is famed as the site of the 1600 Battle of Hasedō, fought concurrently with Sekigahara, where Mogami forces withstood Uesugi's army under Naoe Kanetsugu. Well-preserved moats, kuruwa enclosures, and earthen ramparts remain.
