Mount Sankichi

Mount Sankichi (574 m) stands on the eastern side of the Kaminoyama Basin in Kaminoyama City, Yamagata Prefecture. Worship here dates to the Edo period, when a deity was enshrined from Sankichi Shrine on Mount Taihei in Akita, and Sankichi Shrine still stands on the summit. The mountain has a city-promoted wellness walking route, and a viewpoint behind the summit offers views of the Yamagata Basin, central Kaminoyama and the Nishiyama hills opposite. Its slopes harbor rare plants, including the Shin'ei cherry, which grows wild only on this mountain.
