Mount Jizo

Mount Jizo is a 1,736-meter lava dome at the northern end of the Zao volcanic range in Yamagata City and serves as the gateway to the traverse south toward the main peak of Mount Kumano. The Zao Ropeway delivers visitors directly beneath the summit, and the Maries' fir forests on its western slopes form one of the world's finest snow-monster (juhyo) landscapes in winter. The peak lies within Zao Quasi-National Park.
