Miyagi Zao Shiroishi Ski Area trail map
Miyagi Zao Shiroishi sits on the slopes of Mount Fubo in the southern Zao range above Shiroishi, and was the first ski area in Japan to be run by a nonprofit. Four lifts serve eight runs, from a gentle family slope to the steep B course, billed as the steepest in the prefecture, an ungroomed D course that fills with deep powder after snowfall, and a mogul-strewn C course. On clear days the A course looks out to the Pacific and the E course toward Sendai and Matsushima. Cheap lift tickets for children and a free kids' snow park suit families. The season runs from mid-December to March, an hour's drive from Sendai, with free shuttle buses from Shiroishi stations.
