Mt. Gōen

An 891.5 m hill on the north-western flank of Mt. Daisen in Daisen Town, Tottori, lying within Daisen-Oki National Park. The name commemorates Gōen, the priest credited with reviving nearby Daisenji temple, and a statue of him stands at the top alongside the old beacon mound ("noroshi-dai"). The hill carries the Gōenzan ski runs in winter and in green seasons a short fifteen-minute climb from the base of the slope opens onto a pastoral view: the great north wall of Daisen above and the curve of Yumigahama Beach with the Japan Sea and Lake Nakaumi beyond.
