元谷避難小屋

Unstaffed emergency shelter at about 1,030m in Motodani, the valley spreading out beneath Mt. Daisen's north wall, in Daisen-Oki National Park, Daisen, Saihaku District, Tottori Prefecture. It falls under Tottori Prefecture's Western Regional Office and has one non-flush toilet. As the Ministry of the Environment notes, "the only toilet facilities on the Daisen trails are at the Misen summit and the Motodani shelter," making this one of the few places on the mountain where one is available; it was repaired under the National Parks Full Enjoyment Project (2016-2019). The hut stands about 0.9km up-valley to the south of Ogamiyama Shrine's Okumiya, which sits at the end of the roughly 700m Miyuki approach, said to be Japan's longest natural-stone paved path. The rugged north wall rears up directly ahead, and the valley here links the walking trails around Daisenji with the summer climbing route. Climbers on Daisen are asked to file entry and descent notifications, and to contribute a voluntary 500 yen per climb (or 3,000 yen a year) toward the upkeep of the mountain's shelters, toilets and trails.
