大山ユートピア避難小屋

Unstaffed emergency shelter at about 1,510m on Mt. Daisen's northeast ridge, beside Sanko-ho (1,516m), in Daisen-Oki National Park, Daisen, Saihaku District, Tottori Prefecture. Its formal name is Sankoho Hinangoya, but it is widely known by its nickname, the Utopia shelter. It falls under Tottori Prefecture's Western Regional Office and has no plumbed toilet, only a booth for using portable toilet kits. Kits are sold from the vending machine in the sixth-station shelter's booth (300 yen per set), at the summit hut shop in the summer season and at outdoor shops; used bags must be sealed and carried out. The route here, informally the Utopia trail, climbs from Daisenji through Motodani and Kamihoju-goe, following valleys with the north wall in view, and the Ministry of the Environment describes it as a varied course for intermediate to advanced walkers requiring all-round technique even in the snow-free season. In summer the ridge becomes a flower meadow of Veronicastrum, Hosta sieboldiana, Thalictrum, Veratrum and meadowsweet; because people leaving the path to photograph the flowers had trampled the vegetation, signs now ask walkers to stay on the trail.
