Mount Senjo

Mount Senjo is a 687 m peak in Kotoura Town, Tohaku District, Tottori Prefecture, lying northeast of Mount Daisen within Daisen-Oki National Park. Its eastern face is marked by Byobu-iwa columnar jointing - formed by lava flows about a million years ago - and the Otaki and Metaki waterfalls. Long a Shugendo training ground from the Heian period and one of the Hoki Three Peaks alongside Mitokusan and Daisen, the mountain was the site of Emperor Go-Daigo's improvised palace in 1333 after his flight from Oki and the start of the campaign that toppled the Kamakura shogunate. The peak is included in the Shin Hana no Hyakumeizan and several other Chugoku compilations.
