Izumigatake Ski Area sits on the southeast slope of Mount Izumi (1,172 m) in Izumi-ku, Sendai, about 50 minutes by car from the city centre and also reachable by subway and city bus. That makes it Sendai's easy local hill, used by residents for a quick ski or a day of snow play. The slope looks out over the Sendai plain to the Pacific. A short lift serves beginners and the longer Usagidaira lift serves intermediate and advanced skiers, and there is room for sledding with children. Winter operation usually runs from late December into early March, depending on snow. In the green season the mountain switches to a viewpoint lift, hiking, barbecue and camping.
