Tōmi-no-Kashira is a rocky outlook at about 2,320 m, sitting on the main ridge of the Kurofu Range — the first outer rim of the active volcano Asama-yama — between Mt. Kurofu-yama and Yari-ga-saya, straddling the border of Tsumagoi Village in Gunma Prefecture and Komoro City in Nagano Prefecture. From its viewpoint the Yu-no-Taira caldera floor and the cones of Maekake-yama and Asama-yama proper spread out below like a miniature garden; the name derives from tōmi, an old word for 'distant view'. It lies within Jōshin'etsu-Kōgen National Park and is reached on the Omote and Naka courses from Kuruma-zaka-tōge above the Takamine-Kōgen Visitor Centre.
