Mount Maekake

Maekakeyama is a 2,524 m outer-rim peak in the summit area of the active volcano Mount Asama. Since the inner Kamayama summit (2,568 m) is permanently closed for safety, Maekakeyama serves as the de facto top of Asama for climbers — accessible only while the volcanic alert level is at 1. The official route starts at Tengu Onsen in Komoro City, Nagano, and threads past the Fudō Waterfall, Kamoshika-daira, the staffed Kazankan hut and the Sai-no-Kawara junction before tracing the outer rim to the summit, where active fumaroles steam from the inner crater nearby. The peak lies inside Jōshin'etsu-kōgen National Park.
