Mt. Myōhōsan is a 1,776 m peak on the Ishikawa-Gifu prefectural border between Hakusan City and Shirakawa Village, lying within Hakusan National Park in the northern Ryōhaku Mountains. It stands near the middle of the roughly 30 km Hakusan North Traverse, which runs from Magari in Shirakawa Village over the border ridge through Sanpōiwadake and Nodanishōji-yama to the main summit of Mt. Hakusan. A sutra container excavated from the summit attests to Edo-period pilgrimage climbing, and the name is thought to come from this Buddhist devotional history; the peak appears on the Gifu 100, Hida 100, and Hokuriku 100 mountain lists.
