Hida Kawai Ski Area trail map
Nicknamed "kawaii", Hida Kawai is a small family ski area in Kawai, Hida City, running entirely on natural snow. Four lifts serve wide cruisers, a separate beginner slope and ungroomed terrain. Its signature is the big bowl on the No. 2 slope, kept closed on weekdays so fresh snow builds up and then opened at weekends, plus the Swamp course, an ungroomed run through the trees. An indoor kids' corner makes it easy for families, and it is about 30 minutes by car from Takayama IC.
