Taira Ski Area trail map
Taira is Nanto city's ski area in the Gokayama valley, near the World Heritage gassho-zukuri villages. It gets some of the heaviest snowfall in Japan, and its north-facing slopes hold powder well. Three pair lifts serve five runs in a compact layout that still includes a long cruising run, a steep rolling advanced slope and a mogul course. The hill hosts many races, including the national sports festival, national championships and, in 2026, a FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup moguls event. A kids' park opens on weekends and holidays, and a cross-country course is next door.
