Mont Deus Park (Takayama City Ski Area) trail map
Mont Deus Park, officially Takayama City Ski Area, sits on Mount Kurai about 20 minutes by car from central Takayama, making it the closest ski hill to the old town. From the top of the quad chair you can see the Northern Alps, Mount Norikura and Mount Ontake, sometimes above a sea of clouds. It has an easy wooded beginner course, intermediate and advanced runs in the Panorama zone, a fenced sledding area called Bambino and a free indoor kids' space, and the city backs up natural snow with snowmaking. The base building doubles as a roadside station, handy on a winter trip to Gero Onsen or Shirakawa-go. The season usually runs from late December to early March.
