Yatsumori Ski Area Closed
Official name 八森スキー場
Miyagi
Open 1937–1970
Yatsumori Ski Area lay in the hills of Shinkawa, Aoba Ward, Sendai, beside the Senzan Line. Tohoku University students were skiing there by 1931, and in 1937 a mountain hut with ski rental opened, along with a temporary rail stop built for skiers. As the ski area closest to central Sendai it drew 2,000 to 3,000 people on busy days, served by a lift of about 250 m and a short ropeway. It closed in 1970. The Yatsumori station that served it lost regular trains in 2002 and was abolished in 2014; only a wooden stairway remains.
