Mount Daitō

大東岳

Mount Daitō (1,366 m) is the principal peak of the Futakuchi massif on the eastern slope of the Ōu Mountains, in the Akiu district of Sendai's Taihaku Ward. Its broad, flat-topped silhouette is a familiar sight from the city skyline, and it lies within Zao Quasi-National Park as a long-dormant volcano. From the Moto-goya trailhead, the climb covers some 1,000 m of relief past the waterfalls of Daigyō-sawa, and the peak is listed in the Tōhoku Hyakumeizan.
