Lake Akan Hot Spring Ski Gelande, nicknamed Utara, is a small ski area right by the Akanko Onsen hot spring town in Kushiro, eastern Hokkaido, with views of Mount Oakan and Lake Akan from the slopes. Its FIS-certified course hosts races and training camps. There are two main runs, the 900 m beginner-to-intermediate Left Wing and the 1,200 m advanced Right Wing, plus a board park with kickers and rails and a kids' sled area. Parking is free, and the hot springs of Akanko Onsen are minutes away. It opens from late December to around the end of March, about an hour's drive from Kushiro Airport.
