Rikubetsu Town Ski Area is a small, free slope in the town centre, run by the board of education. It opened in 1966 and has a single surface lift of about 195 m and one 220 m run that reaches 35 degrees at its steepest. Floodlights allow evening skiing three nights a week. The season follows the school winter break: from early January to late February, open every afternoon during the holidays, then on weekday evenings and weekend afternoons. There is a rest house, and it is mainly where local children learn to ski.
