Hachimantai Resort Shimokura Ski Area trail map
Shimokura is the powder and tree-skiing side of Hachimantai Resort, on the lower slopes of Mount Hachimantai in Iwate. It shares lift tickets with the neighbouring Panorama ski area, linked by a free shuttle bus. Besides seven runs such as Silky and Diamond, it has six tree-run zones of different difficulty, up to 37 degrees, where registered riders can enjoy ungroomed light powder through the forest, plus a snow-ride area with kickers and banks. For terrain beyond the boundary, local guided tours are recommended. It is about 15 minutes from the Matsuo-Hachimantai exit of the Tohoku Expressway, with a season from late December to late March.

Tree-run areas (open 9:30-15:00 on suitable days) require registration at the center lodge and following the local rules; riding outside the managed area is at your own risk, rescue there is charged, and joining a local guided tour is recommended.
