Akita-Hachimantai sits among beech forest at around 1,000 m beside the Hachimantai Aspite Line near Lake Onuma. It is known for one of the longest seasons in Tohoku, opening in mid-November and running until the early-May holidays. A single 1 km pair lift serves the wide, gentle Bunamori slope and the steeper Todomatsu slope used for races, with views down to Onuma. Everything is groomed, which makes it a favourite training and camp venue for racers and technical skiers. In winter the only open road is from the Kazuno-Hachimantai side, about 30 minutes from the interchange.
