Shizukuishi Ski Resort, run by Prince Hotels on the slopes of Mt. Takakura in Iwate, is known as the venue of the 1993 Alpine World Ski Championships. A ropeway climbs to the summit, where Mt. Iwate fills the view, and the FIS-certified 2,648 m Downhill course drops the full 720 m to the base. The 20 runs range from 33-degree pitches to the gentle Crystal slopes and the wooded Paradise course, and the Shizukuishi Snowland kids' park suits young children. Kids of elementary-school age and under ride free. The Shizukuishi Prince Hotel stands at the foot of the slopes, about 20 km from Morioka IC.
