Mount Nyūtō

Mount Nyūtō is a 1,478 m peak straddling Senboku City in Akita Prefecture and Shizukuishi Town in Iwate District, Iwate Prefecture, sitting within Towada-Hachimantai National Park northeast of Akita-Komagatake. It carries two names: viewed from Akita its breast-shaped silhouette earned it Nyūtō-san ("breast mountain"), while in Iwate it is called Eboshi-dake. It is listed in the Nihon Sanbyaku Meizan, the Tōhoku 100 Meizan, and the Onsen Hyakumeizan. The Akita side cradles the renowned Nyūtō Onsen-kyō hot-spring village, and three trails climb from there to the summit: the Kuroyu route (about 2.5 hours round trip), the Magoroku-Tashirotai route, and the Ganiba route. All three start and end at hot-spring inns, making the climb a classic onsen hike, and the summit views span Akita-Komagatake, Iwate-san, and the Hachimantai plateau.
