Amihari Onsen Ski Resort lies on the southern foot of Mount Iwate beside the Kyukamura Iwate-Amihari Onsen hotel, and its summit is the highest of any ski area in Iwate, which keeps the powder light. Seven runs include the Futago descent through rime-coated trees, the signature Futago forest run among firs, and a 37-degree slalom slope used for races. The top is also a gateway for backcountry tours toward Mount Mitsuishi. A hot spring sits a minute's walk from the slopes, children of primary-school age ride free, and the Kyukamura hotel runs a shuttle from Morioka Station (booking required). The season runs from late December to late March.

- Shinkansen Morioka Station Tohoku Shinkansen, Akita Shinkansen, Tohoku Main Line · Kyukamura's access page says the shuttle is for hotel guests only. Morioka Station ⇔ Koiwai Farm by Iwate Kenkotsu route bus, Koiwai Farm ⇔ Amihari Onsen by the Kyukamura shuttle (about 20 min after its Morioka departure) → Kyukamura Iwate-Amihari-Onsen free shuttle bus from the West Exit bus rotary, about 1 h (dep. Morioka Station West Exit 9:30, 11:30, 14:45, 16:45; reservation required by the day before)
From the airport

Backcountry
The summit is a gateway to backcountry toward Mitsuishi-yama and Hachimantai; anyone heading outside the managed area must fill in a climbing notice at the ticket office.
