Mount Odake

Odake is a 1,623 m peak of Akita-Komagatake in Semboku, Akita Prefecture. The second-highest summit after Onamedake (1,637 m), it is one of the rocky peaks—with Onamedake and Yokodake—that ring Amida Pond. Akita-Komagatake is an active volcano in the southern part of Towada-Hachimantai National Park, renowned for its alpine flora, including fields of chinguruma and nikkō-kisuge and the komakusa colonies of Ōyakezuna. The road to the eighth station is closed to private cars during the summer season. It was formerly regarded as the main peak of Akita-Komagatake, and a stone shrine at its summit enshrines the Komagata deity.
