Mt. Bizentate

備前楯山

A 1,272 m peak rising in the centre of the old copper-mining town of Ashio in Nikko City, Tochigi, often called the home mountain of the Ashio district. According to local lore the mountain was named in 1610 after two farmers from Bizen Province who first discovered the copper outcrops that would launch the Ashio mine. A trail from Funaishi Pass climbs to the summit in about an hour and a half, opening up views of Mt. Nantai, Mt. Sukai and the wider Ashio range, and the slopes are famous for their yashio-azalea blossoms. The peak appears in Tochigi Hyakumeizan among other lists.
